On Thursday the Sky Simulations MD-11 was released as new version 2 for FSX, FSX:SE and Prepar3D (v2/v3/v4). The triple jet aircraft McDonnell Douglas MD-11, which is very popular in the Flight Simulation community, costs 41.99 Euros and is available at simMarket. If you already own the old previous version and bought it after October 18, 2017, you can get the new version for about 31.99 Euros. In the product description Sky Simulations promises a “completely redesigned aircraft” with “completely new systems”. This includes new HD textures, flexible wings, three-dimensional engine blades and 3D instruments in the cockpit.

What does not appear on the simMarket product page, but does appear on the developer team’s website: The FMC is based on Eric Marciano’s EasyFMC. This is a flight management computer that is essentially based on the standard GPS of the FSX/Prepar3D and also uses the onboard navigation database of the Flight Simulator. Consequently, the MD-11 v2 from Sky Simulations is more likely to appeal to after-hours pilots who place little value on deeply simulated systems. The question is whether a price of 42 Euros is a little too high in this case.
