Captain7 is out – for now

Some had already suspected it, now it’s official: Captain7 is stepping away from scenery development for the time being. He announced his decision a few hours ago in a Facebook post.
While his rendition of Nuremberg EDDN for Prepar3D – and later for MSFS – was a big success, a number of factors eventually led him to this point. His next planned project, Hannover Airport, unfortunately fell through due to complications during the COVID-19 pandemic.A few years ago, he also took on a new full-time job, which now leaves little time for flight sim development as a hobby.
So – farewell for now, Volker. Thank you for all your fantastic work – and, as the saying goes: You never really leave completely. :)

iniBuilds A340 only available on the Marketplace – understandable or problematic?

iniBuilds&#039 recent announcement that their Airbus A340 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will initially be available exclusively through the Marketplace has once again stirred up the community. While Microsoft&#039 Flight Simulator Marketplace is considered a convenient and reliable platform for add-ons, the decision to offer such a large product exclusively there is viewed critically by many.
The question that keeps coming up is: Does this move promote monopolization of the market? Developers such as iniBuilds have often opted for other distribution channels in the past, but now they are focusing on a Marketplace-only strategy. Will this become the norm and limit choice and competition for users?
On the one hand, the quality and compatibility of the Marketplace is seen as an advantage, as Microsoft and Asobo are creating a centralized, controlled environment. On the other hand, many fear that an increasing number of exclusive products could severely restrict the market, leading to higher prices and limited choice in the long term.
What does the community think? Are such exclusivity measures perceived as understandable or as a problem? Is there a growing mistrust of excessive control over the add-on market?
We would like to hear your opinion!

Steamline: New Client for Flight Simulator add-on distribution

Steamline is a new client for providing add-ons for FS. It is intended for both freeware and payware. The advantage for users is that add-ons can be installed with just one click. This is similar to the clients from Orbx, simMarket, Aerosoft, and also the in-game store of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Steamline says it is by flight simmers for flight simmers. And above all, the fact that the client will also offer freeware should make it interesting for many flight simmers. Steamline is currently still in beta.

Save on X-Plane 12 and other Flightsims

Are you planning to take a seat in X-Plane 12? Now is a particularly good time to do so. Thanks to the current fall promotion on Steam, you can save about 33 %. Instead of the regular price of around €59, the flight simulator is currently available for around €40.
Other flight simulators are also currently reduced in price. These include the FSX Steam Edition and AeroflyFS 4.
Other flight simulators are also currently reduced in price. These include the now somewhat antiquated FSX Steam Edition, as well as AeroflyFS 4.
The predecessor to the current X-Plane 12 is also heavily discounted. X-Plane 11 is currently available on Steam for a whopping 67% off: only €8.24.
However, the best deal is probably X-Plane 12, as it is by far the most up-to-date flight simulator and also comes with a discount that is not to be sneezed at.
